New Bike

Kasey hunted down a road bike on KSL for my birthday.  It's a slightly used Trek in great condition.  My sister "Bear" met up with me in the church parking lot across from our apartment to show me her new ride as well.  As you can probably tell, we both married avid cyclists.

After buying all of my gear (embarrassingly tight diaper bum shorts and youth helmet included), Kasey and I went on our first ride last Saturday.  Before we got on the road, we went to the church parking lot again so I could practice clipping in and out of my pedals.  It's really strange and downright terrifying to have my legs locked down while I'm on a moving vehicle.  As I practiced coming to a stop, I unclipped one pedal, but somehow forgot I was still clipped into the other one and fell over with a thud of dead weight.   Although I was a little shaken at the time, it's really pretty funny and ridiculously pathetic (there's nothing more hilarious to me than people falling).  Anyway, with a lot of intense concentration (I unclipped about half a mile away from any stop light with my leg awkwardly dangling to the side just to be safe), I successfully made it on a ride to my parent's house and back.  I don't think I'll ever get to the point of feeling comfortable riding in a pack of people or doing a non-stop 200+ mile race like Kasey, but I'm excited to have a little side hobby with him.  My bike is now a lovely addition to our little apartment since we have nowhere else to put it...

  1. Happy late birthday!
That is my very fear with trying out one of these bikes: clipping into the pedals. So terrifying. Imagining your fall...so funny.

  2. Good for you, Moo! I think it's great you're taking this on. And I would have paid good money to see that fall.
