2nd Annual Curtis Brothers Adventure

Growing up, we loved to go camping, skiing, hiking, rock climbing, rappelling, and backpacking with my Dad. My brother Alex has more or less made these things into a career, being in Army (a la Buster from Arrested Development) and being on the Salt Lake County Search and Rescue. With Dad Curtis gone on a mission, Alex has become our leader and organized fun trips to go on. So far both years have been in southern Utah doing canyoneering (going through slot canyons, involving rappelling, swimming through pools, and getting through sticky spots). So far, I've managed to get sick for both trips, but oh well. This year we went to the Escalante region to do Neon Canyon. We backpacked in about 3 miles and set up camp on the river.

We had a nice little "loft" area above our camp where we could eat dinner and gaze over the view. I slept out on a tarp under the stars, which is one of my favorite things. The next day we hiked over to the top of Neon Canyon. At a leisurely pace we went through the canyon in 7 hours. The end of the canyon is a rappel into the "Golden Cathedral," a cool cavern like area with a pool.

Anyway, it was a fun time as always. If you would like to see more pictures, you can look at this gallery: https://www.dropbox.com/gallery/6498795/1/Neon%20Canyon%202011?h=82a53d .Next year, we'll have the old man back in the group, and I think the plan might be to do a fishing/backpacking trip, perhaps to the Wind Rivers...
